BP continue operations to stop the worst oil spill in US history. But they will need pressure from consumers over the coming months to clean up properly and not take short cuts that oil companies coping with spills have in the past.
Since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, an estimated 5,000 barrels of oil a day have been gushing into the seas of the Gulf of Mexico and drifting towards the US coast, threatening wildlife and livelihoods dependent on tourism and fishing.
This leak still shows no signs of stopping soon.
